Future Trading Is 100% Halal, Some Says...
Others Swear It’s 110% Haram...
But Let’s Leave Emotions Aside, And Search For The Truth With Sincerity, For The Sake Of Allah ﷻ.
Let’s Understand Before We Judge.
📘 What Is Future Trading?
Future Trading Is A Contract-Based Agreement Between Two People, Predicting That A Certain Asset Will Go Up Or Down At A Set Time In The Future. You’re Not Buying Or Selling The Real Asset—You're Just Trading Contracts.
No Ownership. No Real Asset. Just A Deal.
Example:
Apple Is $10 Per KG
X Says: “It’ll Be $12 In 5 Weeks.”
Y Says: “No, It Won’t.”
They Make A Deal. After 5 Weeks—No One Buys Or Sells Apples. Just One Pays The Other Based On A Price That Neither Owns. Then Crypto Came with A Twist—Perpetual Futures
🔁 What Is Perpetual Future Trading?
Same Idea—But No Expiry Date. You Can Hold A Position As Long As You Want. Instead Of Trading Between Two People, You Trade Inside A Big Pool. Funds Will Distribute from The Pool. Every 4 Hours, A Funding Fee Is Charged To Balance Buyers (Long) And Sellers (Short). If More People Are Longing—They Pay The Shorts. Scholars Debated If This Is Riba.
❓ Is Funding Fee Riba?
Some Scholars Say Yes. Some Say No. But The Strongest Opinion Is:
It’s Not Riba, Because It’s Not Interest On A Loan—It’s Just A Market Mechanism To Balance Longs And Shorts. And The Rate Changes in Real-Time.
_“Alhamdulillah! Then It’s Halal, Right?”
Wait... Slow Down Brother🤚🏼
⚠️ Enter: Leverage
This Is Where It Gets Dangerous. Leverage Means You’re Borrowing From The Exchange To Multiply Your Trade—2X, 5X, 10X, Even 100X! But Remember—The Exchange Isn’t Lending You Real Money. You’re Taking A Digital Loan With No Real-World Backing. And Guess What? You Pay Interest (Riba) On That Loan. And Allah Has Declared War On Those Who Deal In Riba.
“Allah Will Destroy Riba And Increase Charity.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:276)
So Ask Yourself, Ya Muslim. Is It Worth The Curse Of Riba For A Temporary Gain?
“Okay Then—I’ll Trade 1X Only. No Leverage.”
Still Not Halal, Brother.
Why? Because Islam Does Not Allow Selling What You Don’t Own. If You’re Short Selling BTC—But You Don’t Own BTC—You’re Violating A Major Rule Of Islamic Trade. You're Not Creating Market Impact. You’re Playing In A Fake Contract System. For Making Others Money Your Own!
📌 In Summary:
❌ Leverage = Riba = Haram
❌ Short Selling = Selling Without Ownership = Haram
❌ Funding Fee Without Ownership = Makes No Sense
